Your First Appointment

Your First Hearing Appointment

Your first appointment at HEARING SAVERS is an important step to improved hearing. We will ensure you are informed, comfortable, and confident about your hearing care.

What to expect at your first appointment

Taking the first step toward better hearing can feel daunting... but it doesn’t have to be. See what really happens at your first hearing appointment at HEARING SAVERS, where we address the common questions you may have, and show you just how comfortable, respectful and informative the experience can be. If you’ve been putting a hearing test off, this might be the reassurance you’ve been waiting for.

1. Initial Discussion

Your Audiologist at HEARING SAVERS begins by getting to know you and your hearing concerns. To better understand your unique hearing experience, we’ll ask about your:

  • Hearing history, when you first noticed difficulties and in what situations
  • Medical background such as ear infections, tinnitus, noise exposure, medications or family history of hearing loss
  • Lifestyle needs like work, social settings, and activities that rely on hearing

2. Check Your Ears

Next, your Audiologist will look inside your ears using a small light called an otoscope, to identify earwax, blockages or other ear conditions that might affect your hearing.

3. Hearing Test

You’ll then have a hearing test to create a clear picture of your hearing levels, called an audiogram. You’ll wear headphones to listen for beeps at different pitches and volumes, and repeat some spoken words and sentences to test speech understanding.

We will also check how your eardrum and middle ear respond to pressure changes.

4. Review Your Results

Once the tests are done, your Audiologist will go through your results with you. We will explain what your hearing test shows in simple, easy-to-understand terms and answer any questions you have.

5. Discuss Next Steps

If your results show that you could benefit from amplification, your Audiologist will talk you through the options. We will show you different hearing aid brands, styles and technologies to help you choose what suits your hearing needs and your budget.

As HEARING SAVERS is an independent clinic, we will offer you a choice from all leading hearing care brands You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions.

Your Audiologist will explain what happens next, whether you need follow-up test, a hearing aid fitting professionally fitted using Real Ear Measurement (REM), or simply monitor your hearing health.
