Top Hearing Aid Brands in Australia

There are eight leading hearing aid brands in Australia. All offer high quality hearing technology along with advanced features, such as background noise reduction, audio streaming from your mobile and TV, and more recently, rechargeable batteries.

In addition, all hearing aid manufacturers offer hearing aids at multiple technology levels and price points to meet every budget, ranging from $1,200 to $4,500 per hearing aid.


Siemens

Siemens hearing aids

Founded in 1847, Siemens is a German technology company with branches in many industries. Siemens also owns Rexton hearing aids, and shares technology with Miracle Ear.

In late 2014, Siemens’ hearing aid division was sold to a Stockholm-based private equity investment firm, and the name was changed to Sivantos. Siemens hearing aids are capable of forming directional microphone arrays, which means Siemens hearing aids are some of the best at reducing unwanted noises and clarifying speech. Siemens was also the only manufacturer to build a completely waterproof hearing aid. Siemens is also able to pack a ton of features in their hearing aids, which makes them very versatile hearing aids.


Oticon

Oticon hearing aids

Oticon is owned by holding company William Demant located in Denmark and established in 1904. William Demant is an umbrella company which also owns Sonic Innovations and Bernafon- both manufacturers which have similar technology to Oticon.

Oticon has a history of producing excellent hearing aids, and is credited with building the world’s first dully digital hearing aid. Oticon is reputed to build very “smooth” sounding hearing aids, with a good balance of base and treble, allowing for a natural listening experience.

William Demant Group owns Pacific Retail Solutions which owns and operates Audioclinic, Hearing Life, Western Hearing and Adelaide Digital hearing clinics in Australia.


Phonak

Phonak hearing aids

Phonak is owned by Swiss holding company Sonova. Sonova also owns Unitron, and recently purchased Lyric.

Phonak is well known as the leader in paediatric hearing solutions, but has state-of-the-art products for adults as well. Phonak claims many firsts, including creating the first hearing aid to facilitate the direct wireless use of Bluetooth mobile phones for hearing aids. Phonak is one of only two brands that builds hearing aids capable of forming directional microphone arrays, which means they are excellent at focusing on sounds you want to hear, and eliminating competing noises you don’t want to hear.

Sonova owns the Connect Hearing chain of clinics in Australia.


Widex

Widex hearing aids

Denmark based hearing aid manufacturer Widex was founded in 1956 and has worldwide distribution. Widex is the only one of the big 6 brands that does not own any other brand.

Widex is the leader in tinnitus treatment hearing aids, with it’s groundbreaking Zen hearing system. Widex hearing aids are very popular among musicians, for a few reasons. Widex builds very high quality hearing aids with state of the art performance.

Widex owns and operates the Bloom Hearing chain of clinics in Australia.


Unitron

Unitron hearing aids

Founded in 1964, Unitron is a Canadian manufacturer owned by Sonova, which is the parent company of Phonak.

Unitron is a very patient-centered brand, and they make unique offerings to the marketplace that no other manufacturer does. For instance, their flex:trial program allows patients to try hearing aids at different technology levels, absolutely risk-free, and with a simplicity that no other brand can match.


ReSound

GN ReSound hearing aids

GN Resound has always been know for its excellent hearing aids with their natural sound quality. They are one of the most flexible Danish brands of hearing aids with groundbreaking wireless technology.

GN Resound were the first hearing aid manufacturer to develop open fit hearing aids with their introduction of the Resound Air in the early 2000's. This was a remarkable breakthrough and had lead to significant improvements in hearing aid user satisfaction. Their open fit technology has now been embraced by all other manufacturers.


Bernafon

Bernafon hearing aids

Bernafon is a Swiss Hearing Aid Company that is part of the William Demant group which also owns Oticon and Sonic Innovations.

Bernafon hearing aids are good value to clients, they offer modern design and excellent sound quality, but without the high price tag.


Starkey

Starkey hearing aids

Starkey is an American hearing aid company that came to fame when Ronald Regan first wore their completely in the canal hearing aids. Their philosophy is to only introduce technology that has been proven through research to add client benefit. They have some novel technology such as real ear measurements through their hearing aids, they are also one of only two companies using the superior 2.4Ghz Wireless connectivity. They were also the first company to introduce the invisible in the canal style hearing aids late in 2010.

Sonic hearing aids

Sonic Innovations is an American hearing aid company. They have recently been bought by William Demant Holdings, which also owns Oticon and Bernafon and through the Sonic Innovations acquisition, obtained several hundred HearingLife clinics throughout the world.
